UL and Applus+ Laboratories Agreement on Fire Testing

    UL, a leading Safety Science company, announces an agreement with Applus+ Laboratories.

    UL has agreed, for the purposes of UL Certification, to facilitate fire testing at Applus+ Laboratories. Testing will be performed at LGAI, an Applus+ technological centre located in Barcelona.

    With this agreement, UL and Applus+ Laboratories will act together to provide a combined testing and certification package to applicants wishing to commence or extend UL certification for North American, Middle East or European market access. The agreement has a clear intent to provide a harmonious service for testing and certification within Europe with the aim of UL certification.

    UL Certification is indispensable for accessing the North American market, and its quality and safety standards are recognized in many countries across the world, including the Middle East.

    UL’s European Business Development Manager, Chris Miles said “With this agreement, one of the first in Europe and the only agreement of its type in Spain, UL very much looks forward to assisting our customers, old and new, in developing their product certification via testing at Applus+ Laboratories”.

    Xavier Ruiz Peña, Applus+ Laboratories’ Director of Product Conformity Business Unit said of the agreement “As a European leader in fire testing our LGAI Technological Center is one of the most advanced technological centres in Europe for product testing. More than 700 technicians and engineers work at our multidisciplinary facilities in Barcelona and we are now able to help companies export and market their products to the main international markets, including North America and Middle East via UL Certification”.

    The Agreement states that Applus+ Laboratories will perform the testing services required for UL-US and UL-EU certification. Amongst the products covered by the agreement include:

     

     

    • Fire Tests for Building Materials - UL 263
    • Fire protective curtains to UL 10D
    • Through-Penetration Firestops to UL 1479 and EN 1366-3
    • Fire Dampers to UL 555
    • Door Assemblies to UL 10B &UL10C
    • Smoke Dampers to UL 555s
    • Window Assemblies to UL 9 & EN 1364-1
    • Electrical circuit protective systems to UL 1724
    • Vault and File Room Doors to UL 155
    • Rapid Rise Fire Tests of Protection Materials for Structural Steel to UL 1709
