Applus+ Laboratories, an asset for manufacturers and operators seeking to fulfill the latest EU Legislation on UAS

10/02/2023

As forerunners in UAS certification for EU Market Access, Applus+ Laboratories delivers trust in safety standards to the drone market worldwide. A vital step to help UAS OEMs adapt to the latest Delegated Regulation (EU) 945/2019 for UAS that will be mandatory starting from January 1, 2024.

The deadline to meet EU 945/2019 regulation is coming up. Why it matters:

The drone service market is booming and expected to be worth $63.6 billion by 2025! Drones are now becoming more accessible, and businesses are taking note of the benefits they could have for their operations.

But along with this valuable market opportunity also comes great responsibility. Manufacturers looking to open their EU market access, must ensure they meet the deadline for (EU) 945/2019 regulation if they want to keep expanding their market access. To obtain these certifications, UAS must undergo a range of compliance tests, including indoor testing, and outdoor flight testing performed in an experimental flight centre for drones, thanks to our partnership with Atlas and Aeroports de Catalunya

Applus+ Laboratories, a Certification Body aiding development of the drone industry:

Applus + Laboratories provides testing & certification services for drones and UAM. Our diverse capabilities and multi-technological expertise have earned us a fundamental role as the EU Notified Body (nr. 0370) with full scope to ensure drones in both Open and Specific categories comply with Regulation (EU) 945/2019. In fact, we've already issued EU-Type Examination Certificates allowing OEMs to identify their UAS with the corresponding Class Identification Label C0-to-C6, depending on their operations.

Furthermore, we are currently involved in a wide array of projects and activities that aim to help UAS OEMs and Operators to obtain the SC-LUAS Certification from EASA, according Regulation (EU) 947/2019. Throughout the whole process, we take charge of developing Testing Plans to pass the Design Verification Process of EASA, Means of Compliance proposals, and once approved, executing the approved Test Plan in order to allow Operators to get operational authorization.

For drones that fall in the Certified category, such as eVTOLs, we can define and conduct testing plans for in-ground and in-flight tests.
